Lecture: Philosopher's thoughts about iconography: from sensitive to intelligible.
Monday, 26th of October 11.30
Philosophical approach to iconography analyzes main ontological and aesthetical principles that surround the icon. From matter to form, from physical to spiritual, from sensitive to intelligible. An intellectual ascension from Word to Image.
Such ascension is examined through hermeneutical analysis of the theory of iconicity applicable not only in linguistics but also in art. From Christ - the second person of the Trinity, who is an "Icon" of cognitively inaccessible God, to painted icon that is a visual representation of cognitively inaccessible spiritual world. A brief analysis of existential consequences to our spiritual life and behaviour is also presented. It should serve as guidance towards a better implementation of icons and iconicity in modern spirituality and religion.
